On Thursday, the undefeated Hazard Bulldogs traveled to Hindman to take on the undefeated Knott Central Patriots. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start and flirted with the lead on several occasions. However, Hazard would fall short of Knott Central in an extra frame.

Hazard quickly fell behind 8-1 in the first quarter. The momentum, however, would quickly switch to the Bulldogs, and they would waste no time getting back in the game. The first quarter ended with Hazard trailing 19-15.

Knott County would run the margin back up early in the second period, but by the 4:44 mark, Hazard had tied the score at 24. The Bulldogs continued to keep the pressure on, and at the 4:07 mark, they had their first lead (27-24). They would go into the intermission with the 34-33 advantage.

The third period would belong to the Patriots, as the Bulldogs cooled off considerably. Going into the final period, Hazard trailed 63-50.

Hazard began to chip away at the lead in the fourth quarter, and at the midway point they were in striking distance. With minutes remaining in the game, Hunter Hardy hit a pair of threes and tallied 10 points total, leading the way for a comeback.

The Patriots had the last shot to win the game, but the Bulldogs’ Josh Hollan came up with the critical steal to force an overtime period. In the extra frame, Knott County was able to outscore Hazard 19-11, giving them the 94-86 win.

Hazard (86) Josh Hollan 24 (5 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals), Hunter Hardy 10 (3 rebounds), Collier Mobelini 8 (2 rebounds), Jordan Olinger 6 (4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal), Chris Hudson 9 (5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block), Tyler Triplett 4 (1 rebound and 1 assist), Matt Thompson 17 (1 rebound and 1 assist), Evan Whitaker 6 (4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal), Jarrod Combs (2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal) and Mack Hall 2 (4 rebounds and 1 steal).

Knott Co. (94) Cameron Justice 39, Chance Cornett 16, Cory Short 13, Evan Hall 12, Simon Christian 8, and Blake Shrum 6.
