The 2013 Perry County 6th grade tournament came down to the R. W. Combs Mustangs and A. B. Combs Bearcats. The game was close throughout, with the Mustangs galloping ahead in the final minutes of the contest.

R. W. Combs started quickly and soon created a small lead. However, the latter part of the frame saw A. B. Combs tighten the score. The Bearcats eventually took the lead, but at the horn the Mustangs were on top 9-8.

The Mustangs continued to hold the advantage in the second period, but could not shake the Bearcats. R. W. Combs went into the break on top 18-13.

A. B. Combs came out of the intermission ready to play, and began to cut away at the lead. The Bearcats erased their deficit during the period, but could not stop another late rally by the Mustangs.

With a little more than a minute left in the period, R. W. Combs held the 25-21 lead. However, A. B. Combs put together back-to-back baskets to end the period trailing by just one point (24-25).

The early moments of the fourth quarter remained tight, and at the midway point of the period the Mustangs’ lead was just three (31-28). At that point, R. W. Combs began to take over, and at the 1:00 mark, they held the 37-28 lead.

In the final minutes of the contest, the Bearcats were forced to put the Mustangs on the line. R. W. Combs made good from the line (Noah Back went 11 of 15 from the line in the frame), and went on to win the game, and the championship, by the final score of 40-33.

R. W. Combs (40) Noah Back 21, Cameron Jones 8, Zach Miller 5, Weston Sizemore 4 and Dylan Cornett 5.

A. B. Combs (33) Ryan Couch 9, Rylan Eddington 2, Noah Caudill 10 and Jordan Caudill 13.
