HAZARD – One person was arrested Wednesday and charged with the early morning robbery of a business on East Main Street.

Authorities responded to the Apple Market after a call was made reporting the robbery at 4:30 a.m., noted Hazard Police Chief Minor Allen. The clerk on duty reported that a male subject had entered the store approximately five minutes before, demanded cash from the register and brandished a firearm. Allen said the man, described as a white male standing six feet tall and weighing approximately 250 pounds, did not cover his face but was wearing a black hooded shirt or jacket.

After the clerk emptied the register, the perpetrator, whom police later identified as 45-year-old Richard Slone of Hazard, demanded the money bag under the counter. He then allegedly fled the store on foot in the direction of lower Main Street.

Slone was arrested by officers with the Hazard Police Department late Wednesday afternoon. He is currently lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard on one count of first-degree robbery.
