HAZARD — A Perry County woman accused of taking part in a staged robbery earlier this year, and who allegedly absconded after being released from jail on bond, is back in jail this week after an apparent escape attempt.
Sharon Hensley, 33, of Hazard, was one of four people in April who allegedly took part in staging a fake robbery in which they got away with $17,000 from UBet in Hazard. A former employee of the business, Christianne Clemons, told police that a female pulled her from her vehicle and drove away with her car and the cash. Clemons later admitted, however, that she had been in on the scheme but had not heard from the other three or seen her car since the robbery, according to past statements from police.
The three remaining suspects, which included Hensley, were eventually apprehended. Hensley bonded out and was placed on house arrest to await trial.
While out of jail on bond, Henlsey was alleged to have absconded from home incarceration on May 14 and remained on the run until she was caught by troopers with the Kentucky State Police on August 2, according to a police citation. She was charged with third-degree escape, theft by unlawful taking of the home incarceration device, tampering with prisoner monitoring device, and second-degree criminal mischief.
Only a few days later, on August 9 of this week, she allegedly attempted another escape. According to a citation from the Kentucky River Regional Jail, Hensley jumped from an inmate transport van in the parking lot outside the jail and ran to the Walmart parking lot nearby.
It was then that Hensley was re-apprehended by jail deputies Brandon Wooton and Kelly Wooton. She allegedly tried to fight the deputies as they attempted to place her under arrest and take her back to the jail.
Hensley is now also facing charges of second-degree escape and resisting arrest, and is currently lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
