Perry falls to Letcher in opening round

The Perry County Central Commodores began the 14th region baseball tournament with the Letcher Central Cougars. The Commodores lost both the regular season meetings to the Cougars, but were looking to reverse their fortunes.

Perry Central got on the board first with a run in the third inning. Nathan Pray drew a walk, and moved to second when Devin Turner also walks. Pray then moved to third on a fielder’s choice by Trevor Combs and scored on a double by Connor Hurt.

The 1-0 lead held until the fifth inning when Letcher Central tied the game. The Cougars took the lead in the sixth inning (2-1) with a single run. Perry Central could not rally in the seventh, leaving the 2-1 score as the final.

Perry Central stats: Trevor Combs 1 hit, Connor Hurt 1 hit and 1 RBI, Tanner Collins 1 hit and Nathan Pray 1 run. Pitching: Connor Hurt 6 innings, 27 batters, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts, 5 hits, 2 runs and 1 earned run.
