The Great Easter Egg Hunt of 2014 has finally come to a close after six full weeks of egg-citing clues and hunting.This year for the first time the Herald was forced to replace the original egg after the first was found to be missing and was never turned in, making the winning egg a purple egg instead of a green egg.Eric and Lesley Shepherd came to claim their prize on April 21, and since then the Herald has received multiple requests for clue explanations. Here the answers to each of the clues given this year.


County BOE approves calendar, teacher raise

HAZARD- Local author Nancy Kelly Allen has released two new books this year.Allen, a retired school librarian from the Hazard City School system, has written more than 30 picture books and two middle grade books and has been writing since 1989.The first book she wrote this year is titled, “First Fire: A Cherokee Folktale,” and is a picture book for young children. The Perry County Central Commodores took on the Jackson City Tigers early last week. The Commodores took the early lead, but could not hold off the Tigers.
