The Perry Central Commodore soccer team finished off their regular season with a loss at Madison Central, and a win over Red Bird on senior night.
The Commodores fell to the number five team in the state by the final tally of 9-0. Perry Central was without three of four defenders as well as a forward. They did all they could to stop the Indians from getting a mercy rule.
On Thursday, the Commodores took on the Red Bird Cardinals as part of their senior night. At the half, the score was tied at zero.
Chad Smith put the Commodores on the board first with a direct free kick. Moments later, the Cardinals answered moments later, tying the game at one.
With less than ten minutes remaining in the game, Alex Ritchie found a rebound in the box along the back post (2-1). Cameron King finished off the scoring with a 60 yard volley that caught the goalie off his line (3-1). The score would hold as the final.
According to Coach Lunsford, “Both games we played this week were tough games to get us prepared for district and region. Also, they gave us a chance to see some of our guys who normally don’t get to play in tougher situations.”
