On Saturday, the R.W. Combs Lady Mustangs and the East Perry Lady Miners hit the hardwood to do battle for the 8th grade Perry County title. The momentum of the game swung back and forth, and eventually found itself on the Lady Mustang side of the floor. The outcome, however, would not be determined until the end of an overtime period.

Neither team would be able to find the basket in the first half of the opening period. The Lady Mustangs would pick up the first basket, but went cold at that point. The Lady Miners went on an 8-0 run to finish the period (8-2).

East Perry picked up the first basket of the second period, and then went ice cold. R. W. Combs then stole the momentum and went on a run that would even the score. They traded baskets to end the period, and went into the locker room knotted at 14.

The Lady Mustangs took control of the game in the third period, and jumped out to a sizable lead. R. W. Combs finished the third period with the 24-20 advantage.

East Perry stepped up the pace in the fourth period in an attempt to get back into the game. As time was running out in the game, the Lady Miners began to find their range.

With less than a minute left in the game, the score was tied at 31. Both teams had a couple of shots at pulling out the win, but could not capitalize. The game ended tied at 31, making an overtime period necessary to settle the issue.

In the overtime period, R. W. Combs began to pull ahead from the free throw line. The Lady Mustangs eventually built a four point lead.

With time running out, East Perry connected on a three to pull to within one. R. W. Combs hit a final free throw to set the final count at 38-36.

R. W. Combs (38) Sturgill 15, Campbell 9, Danner 2, Hoskins 10, and Gibson 2.

East Perry (34) Pollard 1, Pennington 2, Day 6, Brewer 2, and Hall 23.
