Miners shoot down Cardinals

The third game of the opening round of the 6th grade tournament saw the East Perry Lady Miners and the Chavies Lady Cardinals hit the floor. The Lady Miners were on fire in the opening frame, and jumped out to an early lead. They were able to ride that lead to the 34-17 lead.

East Perry was on fire in the first period, and jumped out to the double digit lead (14-4). They continued pour it on in the second period, and went into the locker room with the 24-7 advantage.

Both teams came out slow in the third period, with Chavies still trying to break the Lady Miners’ stranglehold on the momentum. East Perry, however, refused to relinquish control and entered the final frame with the 32-9 lead.

East Perry emptied their bench in the fourth quarter, but managed to keep a strong hold on the lead. Chavies was able to cut into the lead, but not erase it as the Lady Miners went on to the 34-17 win.

East Perry (34) Hughes 9, Feltner 2, Neace 13, Creech 2, Combs 6, McAlarnis 1 and Morris 2.

Chavies (17) Mullins 9, Neace 4, Johnson 2 and Howard 2.
