Hazard comes up short with South Laurel

On Saturday, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs hosted the South Laurel Lady Cardinals. The contest was hard fought from the opening tip, and was really much more competitive than the 62-49 score would indicate.

Hazard managed to keep pace with South Laurel for much of the first period, and with only a couple of minutes remaining, the Lady Bulldogs trailed 13-12. However, a late run by the Lady Cardinals boosted them to the 22-12 lead at the horn.

The Lady Bulldogs’ defense slowed the Lady Cardinals in the second period, but also limited Hazard’s looks at the basket. Going into the intermission, the Lady Bulldogs trailed 32-21.

Hazard came roaring back in the third quarter, and quickly cut the margin back to six points. But, after a timeout by South Laurel, the Lady Cardinals were able to reinstate their double-digit lead (49-38).

Despite a strong effort by the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth quarter, they could not force the Lady Cardinals to relinquish the lead. Hazard went on to lose the game by the final count of 62-49.

Hazard (49) Caudill 15 (3 rebounds), Johnson 18 (2 rebounds and 1 steal), Robinson 4 (6 rebounds and 3 steals), K. Walker 2 (6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals), D. Walker 7 (3 rebounds and 1 steal) and Muha 3 (1 rebound).
