Early last week, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs hosted one of the area’s top teams in the Powell County Lady Pirates. Hazard jumped out to the early lead, and fended off several Powell County rallies before taking the 67-59 win.
Everything seemed to go the Lady Bulldogs way in the first period as they ran the floor and pushed the tempo on the Lady Pirates. Hazard finished the period with the 20-11 lead.
Powell County picked up the pace in the second period, but could little defensively to halt Hazard. The Lady Bulldogs went into the locker room sitting on a 35-25 lead.
The Lady Pirates made several strong rallies in the third period, but each was met with a counter rally by the Lady Bulldogs. Going into the final period, Hazard still had a sizeable lead at 47-38.
Both teams pulled out all the stops in the fourth quarter, with Powell County getting the better of the scoring. However, it would not be enough to erase their deficit as Hazard went on to win the game by the final count of 67-59.
