Late last week, the Perry County Central Lady Commodores hosted the Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats. The Lady Commodores opened up a big lead early, and eventually held on for the 76-70 win.
It was all Perry Central in the first quarter as they opened a 12-0 lead in the first few minutes. Prestonsburg broke the ice midway through and played even with the Lady Commodores the remainder of the first period (23-12).
The Lady Commodores’ scoring dropped off in the second period, allowing the Lady Blackcats to cut into the lead. Going into the half, Perry Central held the 36-27 advantage.
Prestonsburg picked up the defensive pressure in the third quarter, and cut the lead to four points midway through. Perry Central responded with some long range offense, forcing the lead back towards double-digits. With eight minutes left to play, the Lady Commodores were up 50-42.
Both teams went for broke in the fourth quarter as the pace hit dizzying speeds. The Lady Commodores were able to avoid the comeback by hitting their free throws down the stretch. Perry Central was able to pick up the win by the final count of 76-70.
