On Saturday, the Perry County Central Commodores went for their sixth WYMT title. Their opponent would be the Harlan County Black Bears.
Both teams came out a little tight in the first period, and for the most part, scoring was at a premium. However, by the end of the frame, both teams were beginning to find their range. Harlan held the first lead at 13-12.
The pace continued to grow in the second period, and Perry Central soon took control of the tempo. Going into the locker room, the Commodores held the 28-27 lead.
The Commodores dictated the pace in the third quarter with their defense. The Bears had trouble getting into rhythm as Perry Central kept them out of the paint. At the end of the third period they held the 39-35 lead.
Perry Central pushed the lead to double-digits early in the period, but Harlan County found a way to break the Commodore pressure and began to cut into the lead. With time running out in the game, the Bears were forced to put Perry Central on the line. The Commodores were able to make good from the line and preserved the 53-47 win.
