Early last week, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs began their quest for the 14th region All “A” title, and a trip to the state tournament, on the road at the Buckhorn Lady Wildcats. The game was close throughout, with the Lady Bulldogs holding the upper hand for much of the contest.
The game went back and forth in the first period, with neither team gaining a clear cut advantage. Hazard got the final rally of the period, and came away with the 13-10 lead.
Both teams picked up the pace in the second quarter, with the Lady Wildcats grabbing the momentum for much of the period. As the half came to an end, the Lady Bulldogs were able to recapture the momentum, tacking on another three points to their margin, and going into the locker room with the 29-23 advantage.
Buckhorn came out of the intermission ready to play, and eventually erased their deficit. Despite outscoring Hazard in the third period, the Lady Wildcats went into the final period trailing 42-39.
The Lady Bulldogs saved their best for last, and soon pushed their margin to double-digits. Hazard was able to stop a late rally by Buckhorn, and went on to win the contest by the final count of 63-55. The win put the Lady Bulldogs in the semifinals against Owsley County.
