On Saturday, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs hooked up with the Breathitt County Lady Bobcats in the championship game of the 14th region All “A” tournament. At the beginning of the season, the Lady Bobcats defeated the Lady Bulldogs 60-58 in a stunning come from behind effort.
Hazard battled hard in the opening minutes of the game, and kept things tight. A late steal and “3” by Breathitt County gave the Lady Bobcats the 12-9 lead at the horn.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to hang tough early in the second period, and trailed by five (18-13) midway through. As the half neared, the Lady Bobcats began to pick up the pace, and going into the locker room, Hazard trailed 30-21.
Hazard showed signs of a comeback several times during the third period, but each rally was met by a counter rally by Breathitt County. The Lady Bulldog deficit reached nearly 20 points in the period, and ended with Hazard trailing 49-34.
The Breathitt County lead reached 20 points in the fourth quarter, but Hazard continued to fight on. They cut the lead to 15 twice, but was met by a counter attack by the Lady Bobcats.
Breathitt County eventually went on to win the game, and a trip to the state tournament, by the final count of 69-49.
