Early last week, the Buckhorn Wildcats hit the road to take on the Cordia Lions in the opening round of the All “A” region. The Wildcats kept things close in the early going, but could not keep pace down the stretch, and eventually fell 68-52.

Things were tight in the early going, with Cordia managing a slim one-point lead at the horn (14-13). The pace picked up in the second period, with Buckhorn keeping pace throughout the period. A late rally by the Lions sent them into the locker room with the 29-24 advantage.

The Wildcats began to lose momentum in the third period, and eventually gave up a double-digit lead to the Lions. With eight minutes left to play in the game, Buckhorn found themselves on the short end of a 47-35 score.

The Wildcats continued to battle in the fourth quarter, and made several rallies. However, each rally was short lived, and the Lions were able to advance in tournament play with the 68-52 win.

Buckhorn (52) Ryan Boggs 5 (2 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal), Josh Crank 7 (5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal), Donovan Engle 2 (1 block), Austin Bennett 5 and Connor Hoskins 28 (6 rebounds and 1 block).

Cordia (68) Chisolm 14, Henry 4, Keita 8, McDonald 22, Mercado 5 and Nelson 15.
