On Friday, the Hazard Bulldogs welcomed in the Sheldon Clark Cardinals from the 15th region. The Bulldogs and the Cardinals battled back and forth throughout the game, with an extra period being required to settle the matter.
Sheldon Clark came out and built a small lead early. However, the last rally would belong to Hazard who managed to end the opening period with a 13-all tie.
The Bulldogs came out for the second period determined to take control of the tempo. Hazard raced out to a 22-14 lead to start the period. The Cardinals were able to come back and tie the game at 24.
The final rally of the first half belonged to Hazard as they reeled off eight straight points. They would then go into the locker room with the 37-32 lead.
The Cardinals completed the comeback early in the third period, and eventually took the lead. Going into the final period, Hazard trailed 47-42, and need to find a way to get back into the game.
Hazard defense began to take its toll in the final period, allowing them to climb back into the game. With less than two minutes remaining, the Bulldogs found themselves down 60-56.
After a couple of Cardinal turnovers, the Bulldogs were able to tie the game at 60. Both teams could only manage a single free throw down the stretch, forcing an overtime period to settle the matter.
Hazard scored the first six points of overtime, giving them the momentum. With a minute and a half left on the clock the Bulldogs led 69-67.
A strong showing by the Bulldogs lifted them to the 78-69 lead with seconds remaining. Hazard went on to win the game by the final score of 78-71.
