On Tuesday (Jan. 26), the Perry County Central Lady Commodores hosted the Letcher Central Lady Cougars in a 14th region match up. The Lady Commodores took a small lead early, but exploded in the second half to take the 73-35 win.
Perry Central’s defense caused problems in the Letcher Central backcourt in the first period. The Lady Commodores were able to turn several turnovers into easy baskets in transition, and led them to the 15-8 lead at the first horn.
Very little changed in the second period as scoring was at a premium. Despite a drop off in offensive output in the second period, the Lady Commodores were able to take the 28-18 lead into the locker room.
Perry Central came out of the break hot, and began to rain “3”s from all over the court. Letcher Central would not have an answer, allowing the Lady Commodores to outscore them 26-7 in the frame and taking a 54-25 lead into the final period.
The Lady Commodores would set the clock in motion early in the fourth period, and quickly went to their bench to end the game. The game would end quietly with Perry Central taking the win by the final count of 73-35.
The Lady Commodores hit 15 “3”s in the game. Desiree Sturgill had a team-high seven 3s.
