On Friday, the Buckhorn Wildcats traveled to Hyden to take on the Leslie County Eagles. The Wildcats won the first meeting 67-55, and were trying to make a sweep of their 54th district foe.
Neither team would be able to take control of the contest in the opening minutes. Buckhorn managed to pull out a one point lead (10-9) at the horn.
The pace picked up slightly in the second period, again, with neither team taking control. The Wildcats went into the locker room with the slim 25-23 advantage.
The third period was a carbon copy of the second, with Buckhorn once again scratching out a one point edge. Going into the final eight minutes, the Wildcats were on top 40-37.
The Wildcats pulled out all the stops in an attempt to control the tempo, and eventually began to build a comfortable lead. A late rally by the Eagles made things interesting, but Buckhorn prevailed with the 59-52 win.
Connor Hoskins led the Wildcats with a double-double (19 points and 10 rebounds).
