Wildcats claw their way out of Eagles’ grip

The Buckhorn Wildcats began their post season journey with the Leslie County Eagles. Neither team was quick out of the gate, with Buckhorn getting a late surge to pull away for the 54-41 win.

Buckhorn struggled to find their range in the first period, and did not get their first bucket until the 1:27 mark. Luckily for the Wildcats, their defense kept them in the game as the period ended with a 4-6 score.

The Wildcats were ready to play as the second quarter got started. Buckhorn soon took the lead, and held Leslie County scoreless for a while. The half ended with Buckhorn holding the 17-13 advantage.

Buckhorn still struggled with their offense in the third period, but continued to keep Leslie County from getting back in the game. With eight minutes left to play, the Wildcats were on top 30-23.

The first couple of minutes of the fourth quarter were close, but after that, it was all Wildcats. Buckhorn controlled the tempo down the stretch, and moved on in the tournament with a 54-41 win.

Buckhorn (54) Ryan Boggs 6, Nick Stidham 2, Josh Crank 20, Connor Hoskins 19 and Daniel Hurley 7.

Leslie Co. (41) Hoskins 3, Smith 5, S. Whit 4, K. Whit 10, Collins 7, Dixon 4 and Asher 8.
