The second game of the girls’ 54th district tournament pitted the Perry County Central Lady Commodores against the Hazard Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Commodores won the only meeting of the regular season 75-61.
Both teams came out strong, hitting shots from all over the court. The first period ended with Perry Central holding the slim 17-14 lead.
Not as many shots were falling in the second quarter as the high pace took its toll on both teams. The Lady Commodores were able to edge the Lady Bulldogs in the frame 14-12, giving them the 31-26 advantage going into the intermission.
Hazard came storming back in the third period, and evened the contest. However, once again, it would be Perry Central that held the quarter’s advantage. The Lady Bulldogs needed to make up an eight point deficit (51-43) in the fourth quarter to keep their season alive.
Defense became the standard in the fourth quarter as Hazard tried to get back in the game, and Perry Central tried to preserve their lead. The Lady Commodores would eventually prevail with a final score of 64-56.
