On Monday, the Buckhorn Wildcats hooked up with the Breathitt County Bobcats in the semifinals of the 14th region tournament. The game got off to a slow start, with the Wildcats picking up the pace early in the second half. Buckhorn was able to move into the championship game with the 68-51 win.
Breathitt County came out hot in the first period, and hit a trio of “3”s to jump out to the 9-4 lead. Buckhorn picked up the pace, but trailed at the horn.
The Wildcats slowly made their move in the second period, and with a little more than two minutes until the half, they were able to tie the game at 14. The Bobcats would continue to hang tough into the half, but Buckhorn showed signs of taking the momentum.
The Wildcats would come out strong in the third period, and took their first lead at 21-20. The would extend the lead to 24-20 before the Bobcats would come storming back to take the lead (26-24).
At that point, Buckhorn would take control of the contest, and began to forge a solid lead. The Wildcats neared double-digits at the end of the period, and would race to a big lead early in the fourth quarter. Buckhorn would go on to win the game by the final count of 68-51.
