A couple of weeks ago, the Studios Unlimited Tumblling and Trampoline team traveled to Decatur, Illinois to participate in the USTA National Team Trials. At the end of the weekend, Studios Unlimited claimed 11 spots on the National team.
About four weeks prior, Coach Vernetta Cole received the line ups for the competition. The intermediate group had more than 70 participants in their categories, while the novice, sub-advanced and advanced had 50 in their division. The beginners had 20 in their grouping. “As a coach, you sometimes second guess your decisions; and I have to say, the numbers scared me”, said Coach Cole of the numbers. She later added, “I put in in God’s hands, and stood on faith during the weeks preparing our team. I could not be more proud of our kids, and their hard work certainly paid off!”
The beginner, advanced beginner, sub-novice and novice divisions only take the 1st place athlete and place them on the USTA National team. In the intermediate, sub-advanced and advanced divisions the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place athletes earn a spot on the National team. The athletes received flight award medals and the National team members received a plaque and will get a National team warmup and leotard. They will receive these at the opening ceremonies during the Nationals this summer in Knoxville, TN.
