Commodores cage Wildcats

On Tuesday, the Perry Central baseball team boarded a bus and set out for Shelby Valley. The Commodores shutout the Wildcats for most of the game, but gave up a run late to bring the final tally to 6-1.

Neither team would plate a run in the early going, however, Perry Central got a single run in the top portion of the third inning. Evan Hurt reached on an error, and moved his way to third via the stolen base. Hurt quickly came home on a sacrifice fly by Dylan Fields.

Perry Central really got their bats going in the fifth inning, tapping the dish four times to bring the score to 5-0. The Commodores banged out three consecutive hits to spur the rally.

The Commodores final run came in the sixth inning (6-0) as Evan Hurt began with a triple, and finished by scoring his third run of the game.

Perry Central’s defense gave way in the bottom of the seventh inning as they allowed a pair of free passes to make it into scoring position. The rally never threatened the Commodore lead, but did stop the shutout (6-1). Braxton Cottongame went the distance for the win picking up a strikeout in each inning (8 total).

Perry Central (6) Evan Hurt 3 runs and 2 hits, Dylan Fields 1 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI, Brody Dixon 1 run, 2 hits and 2 RBI, Ronnie Long 1 run and 1 hit, Kameron Conley 2 hits and 1 RBI, and Colton Walker 1 hit.
