Bulldogs survive attack by Wildcats

The Hazard Bulldogs traveled to Myrtle Beach for spring break, and to participate in the Cal Ripken Experience tournament. The Bulldogs began the tournament with the Waggner Wildcats out of the 7th region.

The Bulldogs collected six hits during the contest, but managed to piece together five runs (all in the third inning). The five run fifth inning gave the Bulldogs the 5-0 lead, a lead that would remain in tack until the sixth inning when the Wildcats began to rally.

Waggner’s sixth inning rally was cut short with just one run crossing the plate (5-1). In the seventh inning, the Wildcats were back on the base paths, and looked to be making a charge at the lead.

Hazard would buckle down and get the final outs need to preserve a 5-3 win.

Andy Baker got the win for the Bulldogs, going six innings with 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Ryan Smith received the save, throwing the final innings with 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walksand 3 strikeouts.

Hazard (5) Bailey Blair 1 hit, Griffen Wells 1 run and 1 hit, Rudy Akemon 1 run, Cole Ratliff 1 run and 1 hit, Devin Morris 1 run, 1 hit and 2 RBI, Ryan Smith 1 run, 1 hit and 1 RBI and Andy Baker 1 hit and 2 RBI.
