Commodores hold off Lions

Late last week, the Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Cordia Lions in high school baseball action. The Commodores’ offense was a little shaky at points, but the defense managed to keep a shutout going until the final inning. The Lion rally would not be sufficient to garner the comeback, and Perry Central walked away with the 6-2 win.

Perry Central had little trouble getting base runners in the first three innings of the game. They did, however, struggle getting them across the plate. This is not to say that they didn’t score. They were able to take a 3-0 lead in that period.

The Commodores got their mojo going in the fourth inning, plating three runs and boosting their lead to 6-0. The rally rounded out Perry Central’s scoring for the night, and they were able to keep the shutout going until the final inning when Cordia plated two runs to set the final count a 6-2.

Dylan Fields got the win on the mound, finishing with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts.

Perry Central (6) Evan Hurt 1 hit, Dylan Fields 2 runs, 2 hits and 1 RBI, Brody Dixon 1 run, 1 hit and 1 RBI, Ronnie Long 1 run, 1 hit and 3 RBI, Seth Napier 1 run and 1 hit, and Anthony Hughes 1 run, 1 hit and 1 RBI.
