On Friday, the Perry County Central baseball team traveled to Powell County to participate in the Bill Orme Classic. The Commodores’ first opponent would be the Prestonsburg Blackcats.
Perry Central would be the first to break the ice as they scored two runs in the first inning (2-0). The 2-0 score would hold until the fifth inning when Prestonsburg lit up their side of the scoreboard (2-1).
The Blackcats’ rally was quickly erase as the Commodores crossed the plate for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Perry Central picked up an insurance run in the following inning, and eventually went on to win the game by the final count of 7-1.
Braxton Cottongame picked up the win, going 7 innings with 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and 14 strikeouts.
