On Monday, the Hazard Bulldog baseball team played host to the Knott Central Patriots. The Bulldogs played even with the Patriots for a while, but broke the game open with a third inning rally. They went on to with the game by the final count of 9-3.
Hazard got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first inning. Cole Ratliff led off the frame with a single, and was joined on base by Cameron Johnson who drew a walk. Both would later score via the error (2-0).
The Bulldogs added one to their total in the second inning as Blake Lockhart got aboard with a single and moved swiftly into scoring position. Lockhart alertly came to the plate on a Cameron Johnson ground out in the infield (3-0).
Knott Central tied the game in the third inning, but could not stop Hazard in the bottom of the inning. The Bulldogs batted around and plated six runs in the inning.
The first four batters to reach base in the inning (Devin Morris, Ryan Smith, Rudy Akemon and Blake Lockhart) all had hits. Lockhart brought two home with his double.
Later in the inning, Cole Ratliff reached with a walk, and Andy Baker forced an error with his offering. Griffin Wells would then bring home two with his single (8-3).
Devin Morris concluded the rally as he went for his second hit and second RBI of the inning. This would be the final rally of the game, and set the final score at 9-3.
Blake Lockhart got the win on the mound, going 4.33 innings with 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Blake Nidiffer started the game and went 2.67 innings, with 5 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks and 3 strikeouts.
