Last Tuesday, the Perry County Central Commodores and the Hazard Bulldogs hooked up on the baseball diamond with the 54th district title on the line. The Bulldogs won the only regular season meeting between the two.

Perry Central took the first at bat, and quickly took advantage. Evan Hurt started the ballgame off with a walk, and promptly came home on a Dylan Fields double.

Three consecutive walks later, the Commodores had another run (Brody Dixon earned a RBI with his walk). Kameron Conley broke the string with a single that plated the final two runs of the inning (5-0).

Perry Central increased their lead to 7-0 in the top half of the second inning. Evan Hurt and Braxton Cottongame each scored their second runs of the evening as they both connected on solo homeruns.

Hazard got their bats going in the bottom of the second inning as they erased Perry Centrals previous offering. Ryan Smith reached on an error and Blake Nidiffer joined him with a walk (both would later score on miscues by the Commodore defense).

The Bulldogs would tighten the score at 7-4 in the third inning. Ryan Smith would hit into a fielder’s choice, while Blake Lockhart would reach on an overthrow at first. Smith would cross the plate after Andy Baker hit into a fielder’s choice, while Lockhart came home when Devin Morris drew the walk.

The two teams would trade runs in the fourth inning. Dylan Fields got Perry Central started with a double, and scored on a double by Braxton Cottongame. Hazard got their run as Cole Ratliff drew a walk and scored a double by Griffin Wells (8-5).

The second half of the contest moved along quickly as neither team was able to put together a strong rally. The only other run of the game was scored by the Commodores in the sixth inning.

Dylan Field would score his third run of the game after reaching on an error. Fields quickly moved to third on a pair of wild pitches, then came home on a sacrifice by Ronnie Long (9-5).

The 9-5 score would hold as the final, giving Perry Central the 54th district title.

Perry Central (9) Evan Hurt 2 runs, 1 hit (HR) and 1 RBI, Dylan Fields 3 runs, 2 hits and 1 RBI, Braxton Cottongame 2 runs, 2 hits (HR) and 2 RBI, Ronnie Long 1 run, 1 hit and 1 RBI, Brody Dixon 1 run and 1 RBI, Kameron Conley 1 hit and 2 RBI, and Ryan Couch 1 RBI.

Hazard (5) Cole Ratliff 1 run and 1 hit, Griffin Wells 3 hits and 1 RBI, Ryan Smith 2 runs, Blake Lockhart 1 run, and Blake Nidiffer 1 run.
