Perry gets past Hazard to reach title game

The Perry County Central Lady Commodores and the Hazard Lady Bulldogs hooked up in the opening round of the 54th district softball tournament. The Lady Commodores swept the regular season meetings, but this game would be winner moves on.

Hazard drew first blood in this contest as they managed to get a pair of runners aboard. The Lady Bulldogs were able to use some heads up base running to force Morgan Robinson across the plate for the 1-0 lead.

However, Perry Central would more than make up for it in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Commodores were solid as they put the bat on the ball. By the end of the inning, Emilee Eversole, Katie Pigman and Kaitlyn Jones had all crossed the plate (3-1).

In the second inning, Maddi Minks finished off her at bat from the previous frame. Minks got aboard with a single and worked her way to third. She then took home while the defense was caught looking (4-1).

Hazard got the single run back in the third inning. Alyssa Muha used some heads up runner to make it around the diamond (4-2). But once again, Perry Central matched the single run with three of their own (7-2). Lauryn Amburgey, Rachel Curry and Kamryn Noe each scored for the Lady Commodores.

The final run of the game would come in the sixth inning. Maddi Minks scored her second run of the game off her third hit. The run would bring the final tally to 8-2, putting Perry Central in the title game.

Perry Central (8) Emilee Eversole 1 run, 1 hit and 1 RBI, Lexi Haddix 2 hits and 1 RBI, Mahala Walker 2 hits, Katie Pigman 1 run and 1 hit, Lauryn Amburgey 1 run, 2 hits and 2 RBI, Rachel Curry 1 run, Kamryn Noe 1 run, Maddi Minks 2 runs, 3 hits and 3 RBI, Keisha Couch 1 RBI and Kaitlyn Jones 1 run. Lauryn Amburgey 7 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Hazard (2) Breanna Sparkman 1 hit, Morgan Robinson 1 run and 1 hit, Destiny Walker 2 hits, Alyssa Muha 1 run and 1 hit, and Chandler Maggard 1 hit. Chandler Maggard 4 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. Alyssa Muha 2 innings, 3 hits, 1 walk and 0 strikeouts.
