The Perry County Central Commodores started the 2016 54th district baseball tournament with the host Leslie County Eagles. The Commodores won the two regular season meetings, and needed a sweep to keep their post season alive.
Perry Central got off to a good start as they plated nine runs in the opening frame. Evan Hurt and Dylan Fields each scored a pair of runs in the inning, while Ronnie Long had a pair of RBI.
The Commodores failed to score in the second inning, while Leslie County managed to plate a pair. The brief rally brought the tally to 9-2.
The Commodores erased the Eagles’ runs in the top of the third inning, but turned around and gave one back in the bottom of the inning (11-3). Perry Central went back to work in the fourth inning, pushing eight more runs across the plate (19-3). Hurt and Fields scored their fourth runs of the game in the frame, while Kameron Conley scored his third.
The two teams would trade runs in the fifth inning, bring the score to 20-4. The Commodores collected the win behind Kameron Conley’s 8 strikeouts 3 walks and 4 hit performance on the mound.
