Perry Central goes 1-2 in Smoky Mountain Cup

Over the weekend, the Perry County Central Lady Commodore soccer team traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the Smoky Mountain Cup. The Lady Commodores would play a trio of teams from Tennessee, and came away with a 1-2 record.

The Lady Commodores started with Sullivan South. Despite playing well, they ended the day with a 0-3 loss.

In their second game, Perry Central would take on the Cosby Lady Eagles. The Lady Commodores would even their tournament record with the 4-0 win.

Ten minutes before the half, Whitley Gordon got the Lady Commodores on the board with a breakaway goal. The game would go to the intermission with the 1-0 score still in tack.

Just after the second half began, Gordon pushed Perry Central’s lead to 2-0. Gordon took a strong pass from Vada Miller and deposited it in the net.

Madison Eversole would waste no time getting Perry Central its third goal as she scored just five minutes after the previous goal. Eversole was able to beat the Lady Eagle goalie with a penalty kick.

No sooner that play resumed, the Lady Commodores were back on the attack. Kelly Arredondo picked up a ball in the box, and notched the 4-0 lead. Eversole and Miller teamed up for the assist.

The Lady Commodores closed out their tournament with the Halls Lady Red Devils. Perry Central would struggle in this contest, giving up five goals to Halls, while scoring a lone goal on offense.

Perry Central’s lone goal would come early on a corner kick. In the confusion in goal, a Lady Red Devil player knocked the ball into the net for the Lady Commodores only goal.

Perry Central went on to lose the game by the final count of 5-1.
