The Perry County Central Commodore soccer team opened their 2016 season with a pair of games on the road. The Commodores started with a loss to North Laurel, and finished with a win over Bath County.
Perry Central came out nervous in their game with the Jaguars, and by the time the first half ended, they found themselves in a 0-4 hole. Coach Lunsford evaluated the situation and made several adjustments during the intermission.
Coming out of the half, the Commodores looked strong and dominated time of possession. Perry Central got one of the goals back when Dagen Combs made a run into the box and played the ball back to John Watts. Watts hit a low and hard shot from 25 yards to beat the keeper.
At that point, the defense would collapse again. North Laurel scored two more goals to end the game with a 6-1 tally.
On Saturday, Perry Central traveled to Bath County to take on the Wildcats. The first half ended with no score on the board.
Shortly after the second half began, Dagen Combs found Cameron King at the top of the box. King was able to take a touch around the defender and hit a hard shot into the side (1-0).
Ten minutes later, Dagen Combs was able to dribble through the Bath County defense and play the ball across the box, this time to Cody Gayheart. Gayheart found his way to the back post where he deposited it for the 2-0 lead.
Late in the game, Cameron King lifted a ball over the defense to the back post where Devin Butler headed it past the keeper (3-0). Perry Central’s defense was able to complete the shutout, giving them the 3-0 win.
