The Hazard Bulldog football team traveled to Pineville in week zero to take on the Mountain Lions. The game was close in the early moments, with Hazard shutting down the Pineville offense in the second half to take the 42-21 win.
Hazard controlled the tempo of the game, and kept their opponent off the field, with a strong ground attack. The Bulldogs ran the ball 36 times for 308 yards. They only threw the ball 17 times for 115 yards.
The Bulldog defense also had a strong showing on the night as they had a plus 4 ratio in the turnover department. Braxton Whitaker had an interception and fumble recovery, while Trevor Coots and Reese Fletcher each picked up a fumble.
Corey Smith led the offense with 234 yards on 25 carries and 3 touchdowns, while the defense was led by Skylar Pelfrey’s 7 tackles.
