On Friday, the Perry County Central Commodores (1-0) hosted their first home game of the season as they welcomed in the Breathitt County Bobcats (0-0). The Commodores won last year’s meeting 29-24.
On their opening drive, the Commodores drained a good portion of the opening period off the clock. Perry Central concluded their drive with a 20-yard pass from Jacob Woolum to Jordan Feltner (7-0).
Breathitt County did not waste any of the clock on their score as they needed but one play from scrimmage to find the end zone. The Bobcats nabbed a short pass and cut through the Commodore defense for a score that covered 80-yards (7-7).
Perry Central was not rattled by the surprise score, and marched down field for the go ahead touchdown. This time, Woolum held on to the ball and ran in from 7-yards out (13-7).
After a fumble deep inside the Bobcats’ territory, the Commodores were able to capitalize for the score. Jayden Neace put Perry Central ahead 21-7 with a 4-yard run and the 2-pt conversion run.
Perry Central would pick up another Breathitt County miscue moments later, and once again, turn the turnover into points. The Commodores’ Jacob Woolum would dash down the sideline from 18-yards out, running the tally to 28-7.
Shortly after the second period started, the Commodores were back on the move. Using several miscues by the Bobcats, Perry Central finished a short drive with a 2-yard run by Jayden Neace. After Cameron King added the extra-point, the Commodores had a 35-7 lead.
On the next Bobcat series, Jordan Feltner scooped up a fumble and returned it 27-yards for the touchdown (Neace added the 2-pt conversion giving Perry Central the 43-7 lead). The clock should have been set in motion, but the signal was never received. This left Breathitt County enough time to put a last second touchdown (43-15) on the board.
Perry Central got the first score of the second half as Neace scored his third touchdown of the game. This time from 20-yards out (49-15). Breathitt County responded with their final touchdown of the game, scoring on a 20-yard pass (49-21).
With the clock moving, Jayden Neace had time for two more touchdowns. In the third quarter he scored from 2-yards out, and concluded with a 22-yard run in the fourth quarter. Perry Central went on to win the game by the final count of 63-21, moving their record to 2-0 on the season.
