On Saturday, the Perry County Central Commodore soccer team played host to one of the strongest teams in the 13th region as the Corbin Redhounds came to town. The game figured to be a titanic battle as both coaches are strong on defensive play.
The game was intense from the opening kick. Corbin was able to control the tempo for much of the first half, especially in the early minutes.
The Commodores had but a handful of shot opportunities in the first half, but also limited the looks that the Redhounds got at the goal.
With time running out in the first half, Perry Central’s Jake Mullis took a corner kick. Mullis crossed the ball towards the goal; where it dipped over the keeper and off the cross bar directly into the net (1-0). The score would hold as the halftime tally.
During the second half, the Commodores changed to a more defensive position, hoping to stop a Redhound comeback. Neither team had any real chances in the second half, and Perry Central was able to edge Corbin by the final count of 1-0.
Perry Central (1) Goals: Jake Mullis 1.
