Early last week, the Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Hazard Bulldogs in high school soccer. The Commodores got off to a slow start, but picked up the pace on their way to the 5-0 win.
Hazard opened the game with a high-intensity defense, keeping Perry Central’s shots to a minimum. However, the Commodores were able to break the ice at the 20 minute mark as Jake Mullis played a ball over the Bulldog defense, and Dagen Combs outran the defense for the goal (1-0). Mullis was also able to create a second goal as he played a ball into the box, and Cameron King beat a diving Bulldog goalie (2-0).
Soon after the second half began, Mullis went on the offensive prowl again. This time Mullis took a pass from Alex Ritchie in the box and played it past the goalie for the 3-0 lead.
Cody Gayheart pushed the lead to 4-0 as he took on the Hazard defense all by himself, and won the battle to the net. Perry Central finished their scoring as Dagen Combs hit Jackson Morgan on a long pass. Morgan broke down the Bulldog defense to catch the goalie off guard. However, Morgan pass up the shot and dropped it off to a cutting Zack Miller for the goal (5-0).
Perry Central then settled into their defense and finished off the shutout (5-0). Chancey Francis and Noah Summerset combined for the shutout.
