The Hazard Bulldog football team took to the road this weekend as they took on the Somerset Briar Jumpers. The Bulldogs looked for a hard game going in as the Briar Jumpers are a much improved team this season.

Neither team was able to find the end zone in the first quarter as defense dominated the game. Somerset put the first points on the board as they got a 37-yard run to take the 7-0 lead. Hazard countered with a 57-yard pass play to Braxton Whitaker from Bailey Blair (7-7).

There would be one more touchdown in the first half, but unfortunately it belonged to the Briar Jumpers. Somerset closed the half with a 39-yard run. They failed on the PAT, and went into the locker room with the 13-7 advantage.

Somerset seemed to break Hazard’s spirits early in the second half as they ran the kickoff back 93-yards to take the 20-7 lead. The Briar Jumper then took advantage of a Bulldog turnover, turning it into six points on a 38-yard pass (26-7).

The third quarter ended with yet another Somerset touchdown. This time on a 48-yard scramble to the end zone (33-7).

Hazard picked up the only touchdown of the fourth quarter as Corey Smith broke the line with a 3-yard run. The Bulldogs went for two, setting the final score at 33-15.
