On Sunday, the Hazard Bulldog soccer team hosted the semifinals of the All “A” region soccer tournament. The Bulldogs took on the Wolfe County Wolves in this round.
The Wolves dominated play in the first 40 minutes, keeping the Bulldog defense busy. Wolfe County picked up two goals in the frame, and went into the intermission with a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs turned the tables on the Wolves in the second half, making it difficult for Wolfe County to get the ball on their end of the field. Hazard would find the back of the net on two occasions, bringing the tally to 2-2.
On the first goal, Tyler Collins lobed a ball deep into the box where Cameron Deaton headed it over the Wolfe County goalie. On the second, Isaac Turner put a high pass into the box, and when the goalie misjudged the flight of the ball, it bounced over his head for the tying goal (2-2).
Despite several opportunities, neither team was able to find the back of the net in the closing minutes. The two teams skipped the overtime periods, and went straight to the penalty kick portion.
Wolfe County made good on their first four attempts, and when Hazard missed their second, the Wolves took the 3-2 win. (Tyler Collins and Dakota Roberts each made a penalty kick).
