On Thursday, the Perry Central girls soccer team hosted the Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats. The match up featured the top team in both the 14th and 15th regions.
Both teams’ defense proved to be at their best in the first half as neither team could get a good look at the goal. Prestonsburg broke the ice in the early minutes of the second half, and rode the lead into the final minute.
With time running out on the clock, Perry Central’s Kelly Arredondo broke loose in the box and was pulled down from behind, setting up a penalty kick. Whitley Gordon to the penalty kick for the Lady Commodores and deposited it in the top corner for the 1-1 tie.
Not being a district game, the contest ended in a tie rather than going to an overtime period or a shootout.
