The Perry County Central Commodore (14-5) soccer team opened the 14th region tournament with the Wolfe County Wolves (11-6-2). The Commodores were defending the 14th region title, and were trying to make it 4 titles in the past 5 years.
Although Perry Central held possession nearly 70 percent of the game, and a similar shot advantage, they found it difficult to find the net. With less than 10 seconds remaining in the first half, the Commodores caught a break.
Despite Wolfe County jamming everyone in the box, the ball managed to kick off the goalie and find an opening. Alex Ritchie took advantage of the situation, and forced the ball back through the opening it had traveled. Perry Central went into the break with the slim 1-0 advantage.
Despite multiple opportunities in the second half, the Commodores were unable to get another goal. However, Perry Central’s defense stood strong, and preserved the victory (1-0), putting them in the finals.
