On Tuesday, the Perry County Central Commodore soccer team took to the pitch in an effort to reach their second consecutive “Elite Eight”. The Commodores would have to get past the Johnson Central Golden Eagles if they were to obtain this goal. The two teams split their regular season meetings.

The game was to be played in the 15th region, but the region had no fields that met state specs, forcing a change of venue. With the change of venue, Perry Central got to host the game on their field.

The pace of the game was fever pitched in the first 20 minutes, with neither team being able to crack the other’s defense. Finally, the Commodores caught a break when Cameron King lofted a ball over the defense, and Dagen Combs tracked it down to take the goalie one-on-one.

Combs was able to complete the play, giving Perry Central the 1-0 lead. Despite the pace, the game went into the intermission, with the Commodores clinging to the 1-0 advantage.

Nothing changed in the second half, including the score. Neither team, despite multiple opportunities, was able to find the goal.

The game ended with Perry Central taking the 1-0 win, sending them to the “Elite Eight” for the second consecutive year.
