Last Monday, the 6th grade county tournament saw the R. W. Combs Lady Mustangs and the East Perry Lady Miners hit the floor in a battle for the championship. The Lady Mustangs jumped out to the big lead early, and cruised to the 49-21 win.
East Perry was able to keep things close in the opening minutes of the first period, and with half the period gone, the Lady Miners trailed 11-8. At that point, the Lady Mustangs went to work, and at the horn, R. W. Combs was up 22-10.
The Lady Mustangs continued to keep the pressure on in the second quarter, turning defense into offense at every opportunity. By the time the teams went to the locker room, R. W. Combs held the 36-15 advantage.
R. W. Combs came out of the break, and put the game on ice early. Midway through the third period, both teams began to go to their bench. At the end of the third period, the Lady Mustangs were up 47-19.
With a continuous clock, the fourth period moved quickly. Both teams garnered but a field goal in the frame, giving the Lady Mustangs the win, and the title, by the final count of 49-21.
