Commodores prevail in “Tale of Two Halves”

The Perry County Central Commodores opened their basketball season by hosting the Buckhorn Wildcats. The game would become a “Tale of Two Halves” as the Wildcats dominated the first half’s action, and the Commodores took control in the second half.

The game started out with a 2-all tie, and at that point, Buckhorn began to make their move. The Wildcats went on to lead 9-2, and finished the period with the 11-6 lead.

Buckhorn began the second period by extending the lead to double-digits (16-6). At that point, Perry Central began to find their range, and eventually cut the lead to three (22-19). The Wildcats would get the final say in the half, and went into the intermission leading 26-19.

The Commodores opened the second half hot, and by the 4:33 mark, they had tied the game at 31. As the Wildcats began to cool, Perry Central began to open a lead of their own. With eight minutes left to play, the Commodores were up 41-34.

With just a few minutes gone in the fourth quarter, the Perry Central lead grew to double-digits (48-34). Buckhorn would not get their first points of the period until about the two minute mark, allowing the Commodores to prevail 59-44 (Noah Back led the Commodores with 23 points, hitting 7 3-pts).
