Early last week, the Perry County Central Lady Commodore basketball team hosted the Lady Generals of Jackson County. The game was close in the early going, but a strong third period showing by the Lady Commodores allowed them to outpace their opponent to the finish line.
Perry Central took the slight lead early, only to see Jackson County get hot from the outside late in the period. The Lady Generals finished the frame with the 19-18 lead.
The Lady Commodores continued to pound the ball down low in the second period, and began to get to the free throw line. This loosened the Lady General defense, allowing Perry Central to take the 36-31 advantage into the break.
Perry Central came out of the intermission determined to set the tone for the rest of the game. The Lady Commodore defense rattled the Lady Generals, giving Perry Central multiple transition layups. With eight minutes left to play, the Lady Commodores were up 68-39.
The Lady Commodores pushed the margin to over 30-points in the fourth quarter, allowing them to go to their bench to finish the game. The Lady Generals were able to pick up some baskets late, cutting into the deficit. However, they would not be able to stage a comeback, and Perry Central went on to win the game by the final count of 80-56.
