The Buckhorn Wildcats’ second game of the Christmas tournament would not be so easy. The Wildcats went up against the McClean County Cougars, and had to hold off a late charge for the 56-51 win. Things were tight in the early going as the first period ended with a 9-all tie. Buckhorn got some, but not much, breathing room in the second period as they went to the break with the 22-20 advantage. The Cougars came out of the break refreshed, and quickly jumped into the lead. With eight minutes left to play, the Wildcats found themselves down 37-30. The fourth quarter proved to be Buckhorn’s frame. The Wildcats outscored the Cougars 26-14, and held off a late charge to hold on for the 56-51 win. Donovan Engle led the way with 20 points on the night.
Buckhorn (56) Donovan Engle 20 (8 rebounds), Nick Stidham 12, Austin Morris 8, Danny Abner 7, Daniel Hurley 6 (4 rebounds), Austin Bennett 3 (7 rebounds and 3 assists) and Shannon Blank (9 rebounds).
