Buckhorn completes sweep of Christmas tourney with win over Henry Co.

The Buckhorn Wildcats finished their holiday tournament play with a 3-0 record. Austin Bennett helped lead the way with 38 points and 20 rebounds on the week.


The Buckhorn Wildcats concluded their Christmas Classic run with a win over the Henry County Wildcats. The win over the rival Wildcats gave Buckhorn a 3-0 record in the holiday event.

Although the pace was slow in the early going, Buckhorn managed to end the first period with the 13-8 lead. The late momentum carried over to the second period, with Buckhorn putting some distance between them and the rival Wildcats. Going into the break, Buckhorn held the 34-18 advantage.

Buckhorn came out of the break cold as ice, with Henry County put together their best frame of the contest. However, Buckhorn would enter the final frame with the 40-40 lead. The final period was not pretty, but Buckhorn managed to hold on for the 51-36 win.

Donovan Engle led the Wildcats with 18 points, while Shannon Blank had 6 assists and 3 steals.

Buckhorn (51) Donovan Engle 18 (9 rebounds), Austin Bennett 13 (5 rebounds), Austin Morris 8 (6 rebounds), Daniel Hurley 5 (8 rebounds), Jarred Griffith 3 (3 rebounds) and Shannon Blank 4 (5 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals).
