In their second game of the 14th region All “A” tournament, the Buckhorn Wildcats took on the Jackson City Tigers. The Wildcats jumped out to an early start, and had to fend off a late charge by the Tigers to claim the 65-53 win.

Buckhorn’s defense recked havoc in the Tiger backcourt early in the game, allowing the Wildcats to pick up some easy baskets in transition. By the end of the first period, Buckhorn was up 17-8.

Things evened out in the second period as Jackson City began to find their range. However, Buckhorn was able to go to the locker room still in the lead 31-23.

The Wildcats were able to pull away in the third period, going up by more than 20 points in the frame. Buckhorn would go into the final eight minutes of play with the 54-33 advantage.

Jackson City would put together their best offensive performance in the final quarter. They would cut into the Buckhorn lead, but the Wildcats’ lead would prove to be too large to overcome. Buckhorn moved into the semifinals with the 65-53 win.

Buckhorn (65) Austin Bennett 13 (5 rebounds and 3 assists), Shannon Blank 8 (11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals), Donovan Engle 21 (5 rebounds), Daniel Hurley 14 (5 rebounds) and Austin Morris 9 (5 rebounds and 3 steals).
