The Buckhorn Wildcats hooked up with the Cordia Lions in the semifinals of the 14th region All “A” last week. The game was nip and tuck for most of the game, with Cordia pulling away in the final minute to take the 76-66 win.
Cordia jumped out to the early lead, going up 13-9 with just a couple of minutes remaining in the first period. Buckhorn then went on a run that would net them the 19-15 lead at the horn.
The Lions would start the second period with a 14-0 run, putting them on top 29-19. The Wildcats closed out the half with a 12-8 rally, sending them to the locker room trailing 37-31.
Buckhorn began to slowly take control of the game in the third period, and with 1:30 remaining in the period, the Wildcats had tied the game at 49. The final basket of the quarter belonged to Cordia, sending them to the fourth quarter with the 52-49 lead.
The fourth quarter saw the lead change hands several times, with Buckhorn holding a one point lead with less than two minutes remaining. Cordia managed to build a two possession lead late, forcing the Wildcats to put them on the line. The Lions made good on their attempts, propelling them to the finals with the 76-66 win.
