Hazard edges Pike Central

On Thursday, the Hazard Bulldogs hosted the Pike Central Hawks. The Bulldogs trailed for much of the contest, and pulled off a stunning come from behind 48-46 win.

Hazard came out strong and took the early lead, but quickly gave way to a Pike Central rally. The final run, belonged to the Bulldogs, giving them the 17-16 lead at the horn.

The Hawks managed to take the lead midway through the second period, and outpaced the Bulldogs to the half. At the intermission, Hazard trailed Pike Central 30-29.

Pike Central managed to keep ahead of the Bulldogs in the third period, and led 40-35 going into the final period. The Hawks continued to hold the lead throughout the fourth quarter, leaving Hazard struggling to make up the difference.

The Bulldogs’ long journey came to an end with just a few ticks of the clock remaining when Ryan Smith hit a free throw to tie the game at 46. After a turnover, the Bulldogs got their first lead of the second half when Reese Fletcher powered his way to the rim with 7 seconds remaining. They then squashed the Hawks final attempt to take the 48-46 win.
